About John O'Connor, Counsellor,Psychotherapist and NLP Practitioner.
B.A. in Business (Psychology).
I have a Master of Science Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from Dublin City University (4 year course) and I fully support the
ethical codes of the various professional associations for
psychotherapists in Ireland. My work is influenced by Person Centred,
Humanistic, Gestalt and Psychosynthesis approaches to positive growth
and development. [ I can explain those terms to you if you like.] I
enjoy working with a variety of clients and believe strongly in the
benefits of effective therapy to help people grow, change and move more
easily in life.
For
therapy to be successful it should be based on trust, respect, empathy,
openness and rapport between the therapist and client (that's me and
you!). This means that when you work with me,
YOU can be free to express all emotions and concerns in professional
safety and confidentiality.
For
the last few years I work with individual clients from all walks of
life. From poor to rich, depressed to happy, anxious to chilled,
educated to street wise, shy to confident, flowery linguists to those
who swear blindly..... I firmly believe in working with each person in
a way that works for them.
My
style of working has been described by clients as "warm", "welcoming",
"direct", "supportive", "challenging", "confrontational", "fun",
"Alternative", "Inspirational", "playful", "Different" but most of all ............effective. For me - and I hope you - effective therapy is about improving your life.
In
addition to the MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy, I have a BA in
Business (Psychology) and a Masters in Business, specialising in Human
Resources. These qualifications and my experience as a therapist
suggest that I just might understand people fairly well. I also
continue to invest heavily in my training to ensure a better service to
benefit my clients.
I am an accredited member of The Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and I constantly update and develop my professional skills to help clients.
